This is an Artist Concept of the new "Aulani" a Disney Resort & Spa, being constructed in Ko Olina on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. The Resort is planned to have 360 hotel rooms and 481 two-bedroom equivalent Disney Vacation Club villas. First phase opening is set for the fall of 210. When I lived on Oahu I spend lots of time on the four man made cresent shaped beaches at Ko Olina as a paparazzi photographer. TV and movie production companies would often do location shoots here. These constructed beaches don't provide a true Hawaii beach/surf experience, but they are much safer for children. With this link you can see Ko Olina from the air, the beaches and the nearby industrial / power plant complexes which have always been an eyesore for this resort area.
Ko Olina is a nice part of the Island, a better family location than Waikiki Beach. I'm looking forward to seeing what Disney does. I can't wait to see what they do at Ko Olina. My hope is that they will do something as fantastic as the job they did with the Grand Californian at Disneyland in Anaheim. Image above is from Disney, photo below of the Ko Olina J.W. Marriott is mine. The Marrriott will share the same beach as the new Aulani.
